HOTGIRLS Task Force On Young Women, Girls, & HIV/AIDS Bios

Dr. Taleria Fuller

Taleria R. Fuller, Ph.D., Task Force Chair

Dr. Taleria R. Fuller earned a Ph.D. in medical sociology from Wayne State University, an M.A. in sociology from Wayne State University, and a B.A. in sociology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Her experience has focused mainly on the reproductive, sexual, and mental health of women and adolescents. Dr. Fuller has served as a HIV Prevention Minority Research Fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where she provided scientific expertise, leadership, and technical assistance for the CDC-funded Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Intervention (DEBI) project. Specifically, she has worked on the following female-focused DEBI HIV prevention interventions: Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS (SISTA), Sisters Informing, Healing, Learning, and Empowering (SiHLE), Women Involved in Life Learning from Other Women (WiLLOW), and the Real AIDS Prevention Project (RAPP).

Prior to her work at CDC, she conducted extensive health disparities research at Morehouse School of Medicine. Her research topics included adolescent sexual health, maternal and child health, and chronic disease prevention. In addition, Dr. Fuller participated in an international HIV/AIDS project in Swaziland, where she examined the cultural dynamics of HIV knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among African adolescents and young adults. Dr. Fuller’s current interests include the impact of socio-cultural factors on HIV/STD risk among African American adolescents and college students and the further development of culturally appropriate prevention strategies for women and youth.

Dr. Fuller is the President/CEO of TR Fuller Consulting, a firm specializing in health research, evaluation, and social marketing. Clients include community-based organizations (CBO) and government contractors.
