FIREGRL.com
Mission
FIREGRL® provides culturally relevant and age appropriate information about issues facing black teen girls in a safe and nonjudgmental online space. FIREGRL content is designed to inspire girls to speak out about their lives and take action in their communities. We believe FIREGRL is the only online community dedicated to providing health, sexuality, social justice, media empowerment, and technology education specifically for black teen girls. The FIREGRL.com web site is undergoing an extreme makeover and will re-launch in a few months. We are creating interactive content and social networking features (i.e., blogs, message boards, clubs, etc.). Please check back soon for updates.
History
Despite the "digital divide," we have faith in the revolutionary potential of the Internet to create positive social change in the lives of marginalized individuals and communities. We are dedicated to increasing access to multimedia technology among girls from underserved, economically challenged communities. Since 2001, HOTGIRLS has delivered life saving health promotion messages to thousands of young women and girls in the United States, Canada, and other countries, while supporting the right to make individual health decisions. In 2001 and 2002, HOTGIRLS launched Internet-based HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns in observance of World AIDS Day, National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, and National Day of Testing. Through these efforts, HOTGIRLS provided HIV/AIDS information and responded to girls’ sexual health questions via e-mail. These efforts led to the launch of FIREGRL.com on World AIDS Day in 2003.
Our Vision
To our knowledge, FIREGRL.com is the only online community providing health, media literacy, social justice, and technology education specifically for black teen girls. We are dedicated to making FIREGRL the premiere web site for black teen girls. We are preparing to re-launch FIREGRL.com during the coming months, and hope to reach thousands of girls with our positive messages.
Content
The web site content is developed by an Editorial Board in collaboration with an Atlanta-based Girls' Leadership Council. Information is provided through creative online fact sheets, and interactive activities. The web site also includes interactive polls, quizzes, stories, E-cards, and other content with gender-relevant and culturally appropriate health promotion messages. We look forward to re-launching the new and improved FIREGRL, which will include clubs, online support groups, blogs, home pages, and other exciting features. Please check back soon for updates.
FIREGRL Editorial Board

Comprised of health educators and health care providers, the Editorial Board oversees the accuracy of the web site content. The goal of the Editorial process is to ensure that information provided on FIREGRL.com is accurate, current, and objective.
