Ashanda Esdaille

Hello! My name's Ashanda Esdaille. I'm originally from Chicago, Illinois, but have lived in Atlanta since high school. I am currently a junior, french pre-med major at Spelman College. I have a strong interest in the AIDS epidemic and its psychological effects on the black/African community, furthermore, African and Black American women. After graduation, I intend on going to medical school and ultimately I want to open a hospital in Senegal, West Africa. I joined the Young Women's Leadership Council because I feel that black women are disproportionately impacted by this epidemic. To combat the increasing numbers, the same young women need information about this disease, which targets the black community directly. I feel compelled to aid my community, especially my peers; and with the spread of knowledge, the spread of an epidemic can be prevented.
